Ancient Olympia traditionally stands as a starting point of journey of the Olympic Flame to the place where the contemporary games are held. The Olympic Flame is lit in front of the temple of Hera inside the archaeological site of Olympia. The archaeological site also includes the Palaestra, the Philippeion, the Echo Stoa, the temple of Zeus and the original Olympic Games Stadium where the athletes competed in the ancient years.
In the modern archaeological museum one can find well preserved pediments of the temple of Zeus, the statue of winged Nike and of course the masterpiece of Hermes of Praxiteles. A visitor can also explore the museum of the history of Ancient Olympic Games and the museum of Ancient Greek Technology.
